The Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools (GNOCCS) announces its 2016-17 Executive Officers: Alexina Medley (Principal, Warren Easton High School), President; Kathy Riedlinger (CEO, Lusher Charter School) as Vice-President; Sean Wilson (Head of School, International High School of New Orleans), as Treasurer; and Claire Jecklin (Principal, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School) as Secretary.
Ken Ducote was recently named as the new Executive Director of GNOCCS. “We are proud of the accomplishments of all of our charter schools and the continuous support that GNOCCS gives to them, helping them to focus more on student needs,” he said.

The Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools (ECCS) has changed its name to the Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools (GNOCCS), reflecting its growing membership and service area.
The GNOCCS, formerly The Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools, is a formal alliance of 14 public schools in the Greater New Orleans area which promotes public charter schools as a permanent and viable option for children. GNOCCS is a voluntary network dedicated to keeping Principals and their charter boards “in charge” through information and advocacy, shared services, and reduced costs. Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA), a high performing K-12 charter school located at 2504 Maine Avenue, has joined the 12-school Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools (ECCS), a non-profit established to protect the autonomy and sustainability of New Orleans area charters through shared services, networking and advocacy, announced President Alexina Medley.
Established in 2006, ECCS is directed by Dr. Rose Peterson who facilitates services among the member schools, thereby helping them reduce costs by exploring economies of scale, sharing resources, offering operational grants, and helping schools navigate local, state and federal educational regulations and activities. Schools participating in the ECCS unified application process are: Audubon Charter School, Benjamin Franklin High School, Einstein Elementary Charter and Extension, Hynes Charter School, Lake Forest Elementary Charter, Lusher Charter School, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School “Sci High,” and Warren Easton Charter High School. We encourage all applicants to get their applications to the schools by January 9,” said Rose Peterson, Executive Director of the Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools. “These applications are considered timely applications and are important for those schools requiring a lottery.” The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) today approved the charter renewals of three Eastbank Collaborative of Charter School members: the International High School of New Orleans (IHSNO), International School of Louisiana (ISL) and Morris Jeff Community School. IHSNO and Morris Jeff were renewed for six years and ISL was the only school renewed for 10 years at the meeting.
BESE followed the Louisiana Department of Education’s recommendations for the three schools released on November 22. “We are excited that BESE has renewed our charter and validated the important work we are doing here at IHSNO,” said CEO Sean Wilson. “As an open enrollment school offering a full college preparatory curriculum with the exclusive International Baccalaureate Programme (IBP), we understand and embrace the importance of a global education and offer a unique international curriculum that is vital to this city.” |
